EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS

Many service members don't realize they may may be eligible for more than one educational benefit at a time. The new GI Bill (Chapter 33) or so-called "Post 9/11 GI Bill," boasts the most comprehensive education benefits package since the original GI Bill was signed into law in 1944, but this new benefit does not go into effect until August 1, 2009. The Military.com web site provides an overview of this new educational benefits program with a good FAQ section.

Tuition assistance program guidelines, application procedures and policies for determining eligibility also vary between services. Check with the Veterans Services advisor at your school of choice to determine what programs apply to your specific situation.
